Kustom® Amplification has pulled out all the stops to unveil an exciting new line-up of tube guitar amplifiers bearing the Defender® name. Each offers an unbeatable combination of all-tube tone and smart, high-performance features.
New Defender V100 and V50 amplifiers, designed by amplifier guru James Brown, are perfect for guitarists who won’t settle for anything less than the very best all-tube tones. At the heart of the V50 and V100 are EL34 power tubes that generate defined lows, rich aggressive mids and a sweet top end that cuts through the mix but is never harsh. Both amps offer classic Celestion® Vintage 30 speakers and cabinets crafted with void-free Birch plywood,
The V50 and V100 are two-channel amplifier designs, each with its own Master Volume control that lets users dial in anything from clean, chiming tones to chunky, medium-gain sounds and scorching, full-on heavy tones.
And when it’s time for the gig or the studio, a Speaker-Emulated XLR Direct Out totally nails the amp’s overall sound for mixers. A variable, footswitch-able Volume Boost that works on either channel makes solos – or those quick fills – stand out in the mix.
Both models provide a luscious spring Reverb circuit with its own Tone control: a classic Kustom feature from the 1960s. From spacious to cavernous, it’s your choice. But then, a step further: we’ve added Kustom’s famous Tremolo and Vibrato circuits from the early days to the V100. It’s that unique swampy sound you can’t get anywhere else!
An amp with one knob?
Is there anything more fun than a low-wattage all-tube amp head that provides authentic, cranked up tube tone at modest volume levels? We think not. And did we say “simple?” The new 5-watt Defender 5H head has just one knob! (Volume) But the fun lies in hearing what this knob does as you slowly turn it up. Starting in the counterclockwise position, you’ll move through clean and clear tube tones to progressively dirtier sounds until this little sucker is just plain screaming!
This “clean-to-mean” response isn’t due to any overdrive or distortion circuit, it’s just the sound of the single EL84 power tube moving naturally into increased output distortion. And it’s great for cranking up and controlling the action right from your guitar’s volume control – no channel switching required!
Features include one 12AX7 preamp tube, one EL84 power tube and three speaker outputs (4, 8, and 16-ohm). By the way, the 5H head is designed to work perfectly with the new Defender 1x12 speaker cabinet. This cabinet contains one 12-inch Kustom speaker with a plywood baffle board and handles 30 watts.
